Benefits of Membership
As a member of the Fire Brigades Union you will be able to take advantage of a comprehensive package of benefits and services.
The Fire Brigades Union represents uniformed members of the Fire Service throughout the country.
Members benefit from:- Legal representation and advice. This includes a free will service and free legal services for family members and much more.

How much do I have to pay?The weekly contribution of ordinary members shall be:
- Full time members shall contribute 1 % of a competent firefighter rate of pay
- Job share members shall contribute half of 1% of a competent firefighter (weekly) rate of pay
- Retained members shall pay one third plus 3% of the trade contribution of a full time member rounded to the nearest penny.
- Volunteer members shall contribute 0.3% of a competent firefighter rate of pay.
This amount is used for the general day to day running of the Fire Brigades Union.
What is the Accident and Injury Fund?This can be described as a small insurance policy, which pays out if an on duty or off duty injury occurs. For more information see the AIF page on this website.
What is the “Political Subscription”?As the FBU is no longer affiliated to the Labour Party there is no longer a payment to a political party which used to be paid from the political fund. This money goes towards the running of campaigns at both a national and regional level. For more information on the political fund please see the Political Fund page on this website.
