Regional Secretary

John has been in the FBU for over 20 years and is currently Regional Secretary for the South West. He has also held many other FBU positions over the last 3 decades including Brigade Secretary. He is actively involved in the South West TUC where he was recently elected as Chair of the Regional Council.
 
In addition to the work on behalf of FBU members and working people across the region he has also been a peace activist in Palestine and spent time campaigning on behalf of Justice for Colombia. A committed anti racist campaigner, he assists in coordinating anti BNP activity across the South West.

Regional Chair

Phil Jordan Spent 6 years in the Navy including service in the Falklands during the conflict in 1982.

He joined Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service in 1986 and after 4 years became Branch Rep at Cheltenham. In 1992 he became Brigade Secretary. He was elected on the day his son Henry was born. In 1995 he was elected Regional Chair.

During his period as Regional Chair Phil has been a member of the editorial board for the Firefighter magazine and has also had responsibility for Discipline cases within the region.

Regional Treasurer

Val Hampshire is a Watch Manager in Emergency Fire Control in Wiltshire. She has worked in the fire service for 22 years.

During this time she has held various positions within the FBU from Branch Rep for Control, Brigade Vice-Chair, and Regional Control Staff Committee Member. She currently holds the position of Regional Treasurer.

As Regional Treasurer she works with other Regional Officials to assist FBU members. Val also has the responsibility for the budgets and works closely with the Regional Administrator to ensure the smooth running of the region.

Regional Official

Regional Official for the South West Region Length of service; 29 years in Avon Fire and Rescue Service, although I could officially retire in 2007. I have given my commitment to the regional Position for the next 4 years.
Branches served at; Avonmouth;Speedwell; Bath;

At each branch I have served at I have been politically involved in the trade union movement and have held positions within these branches. (Health and safety Rep; branch sec; branch chair; minutes sec; rep to Brigade committee)

Brigade Positions; Avon Brigade Chair; Avon Brigade Secretary, Roving ULR, and I am probably the oldest tea maker in the Region!

Regional Administrator

Emma Smart joined the Fire Brigades Union in December 2002 as the Office Administrator. She is based at the Regional Office three days a week providing admin support to the EC Member and Regional Officials.
