Regional Officials
Tam McFarlane is a Firefighter from Somerset Fire & Rescue Service who has been in the service for 15 years following a period of service in the Royal Marines.
He has served as an FBU Official for much of his time within the Service in various positions such as Branch Secretary, Membership Secretary, Brigade Secretary and Regional Secretary. Tam has been involved in negotiations at Brigade level throughout the South West and has been at the forefront of negotiating on behalf of FBU members in dispute situations.
Tam is active within the wider Trade Union movement having served for three terms on the TUC SW Executive and is an active speaker and campaigner on behalf of working people and in particular the public services.
Tam was elected to the position as Executive Council member for the South West in April 2006 and is committed to ensuring that FBU members in the South West have an active and full say in all National decisions and policies.

John Drake has been in the Fire Service since 1989. Prior to that was in the Army for 10 years.
He has been involved in the FBU since day one in service. Member, Branch Rep, Brigade Chair, Brigade Secretary, Regional Official and Regional Secretary.

Phil Jordan Spent 6 years in the Navy including service in the Falklands during the conflict in 1982.
He joined Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service in 1986 and after 4 years became Branch Rep at Cheltenham. In 1992 he became Brigade Secretary. He was elected on the day his son Henry was born. In 1995 he was elected Regional Chair.
During his period as Regional Chair Phil has been a member of the editorial board for the Firefighter magazine and has also had responsibility for Discipline cases within the region.
He joined Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service in 1986 and after 4 years became Branch Rep at Cheltenham. In 1992 he became Brigade Secretary. He was elected on the day his son Henry was born. In 1995 he was elected Regional Chair.

Val Hampshire is a Watch Manager in Emergency Fire Control in Wiltshire. She has worked in the fire service for 21 years.
During this time she has held various positions within the FBU from Branch Rep for Control, Brigade Vice-Chair, and Regional Control Staff Committee Member. She currently holds the position of Regional Treasurer.
As Regional Treasurer she works with other Regional Officials to assist FBU members. Val also has the responsibility for the budgets and works closely with the Regional Administrator to ensure the smooth running of the region.
During this time she has held various positions within the FBU from Branch Rep for Control, Brigade Vice-Chair, and Regional Control Staff Committee Member. She currently holds the position of Regional Treasurer.

Regional Official for the South West Region Length of service; 29 years in Avon Fire and Rescue Service, although I could officially retire in 2007. I have given my commitment to the regional Position for the next 4 years.

Emma Smart joined the Fire Brigades Union in December 2002 as the Office Administrator. She is based at the Regional Office three days a week providing admin support to the EC Member and Regional Officials.
