All Members Circular - SIMPLE COMPARISON SHOWING THE CHANGES BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSED FINAL AGREEMENT FROM MAY 2012 AND THE LATEST PROPOSAL IN JUNE 2013

28th June 2013

TO:    ALL MEMBERS

Dear Brother/Sister,

SIMPLE COMPARISON SHOWING THE CHANGES BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSED FINAL AGREEMENT FROM MAY 2012 AND THE LATEST PROPOSAL IN JUNE 2013

In the weeks since Conference the Union has been meeting with officials from all UK Governments in an attempt to improve the proposal for the 2015 Firefighters’ Pension Scheme. There have been some improvements to the earlier proposals made in May 2012 which have been detailed over a period of time in a various letters to the FBU from CLG Fire Minister Brandon Lewis.

An earlier circular issued to all members on 21 June 2013 outlined that the Executive Council was clear that it could not recommend that the latest proposals should be agreed.

However, it is important that members are fully aware of the changes and how they may affect you.

To assist this a document (attached to this circular) shows the changes in one simple table with the May 2012 proposal in one column and indications of any changes with brief details in the other.

Some of the discussions in relation to the changes have been very technical and focus on details that will need further explanation to enable members to see how they are affected.  Members will shortly be receiving additional information detailing these developments, including examples highlighting and explaining what the proposals might mean in certain situations.

In addition to this there are also ongoing FBU meetings where these latest developments are being discussed.

Please make sure you read all the information circulated and take every opportunity to attend these meetings.

Best wishes.

Yours in Unity,
