PENSIONS: LOBBYING AND BRIEFING FOR THE 2ND READING OF THE PENSIONS BILL

The second reading reading of the Public Service Pensions Bill has been re-scheduled for the 29th of October. This will involve a debate in Parliament and it’s really important that all the MPs in the South West are properly briefed and understand why these plans won’t work for the Fire & Rescue Service!

Every Member should either write to or meet their MP and raise the issues involved. To assist in this a detailed briefing note has been prepared and is attached to the link above.

The EC Member, Tam McFarlane  has already written to all MPs in the Region explaining the specific challenges associated with firefighting and why the Government’s proposals remain totally unworkable and therefore unacceptable. A copy of this letter is also attached and you can use this letter as a template for your own letter or email if you wish.

The Region will be trying to co-ordinate lobbying and briefing of MPs in the South West but please don’t wait to b e contacted! Everyone who works in the Fire & Rescue Service knows the arguments against these disgraceful plans so please don’t hesitate to write, contact and meet your MP urgently and use this briefing to get the points across.

Please let us know through the website what response you get from your MP. This way we will know who to concentrate on!
